Using his exuberant unique iterations of both traditional and contemporary interpretations of Karuk historical and spiritual iconography, and his brutally direct and sparse poetry Tripp courageously illuminates the enduring resistance and resilience of Karuk people. From a lifelong series of “songbooks” Tripp elegantly uses the mundane substrate of the composition notebook, where his marker pen drawings pass through the thin pages to create a beautiful doubling effect that pushes the narrative through time.
This volume portrays the Red House, the big gathering home of the Karuk village, its place by the river, and the musings and activities of the people in the village.
