New York-based artist Lesley Dill explores text relationships between sculpture, photography and performance, using a variety of media and techniques to explore themes of language, the body, and transformational experience. Lesley Dill was born in Bronxville, NY and raised in Maine. After graduating from Trinity College with a degree in English, she received her master of arts in teaching from Smith College in 1974 and her master of fine arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1980. The artist soon moved to New York and emerged prominently as a sculptor and multi-media artist. Her work has been widely exhibited can be found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of Modern Art; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among many others. Recent projects include the community project Tongues On Fire: Visions and Ecstasy (2001), the opera Divide Light (2008); based on the poetry of Emily Dickinson, which Dill conceived and directed, as well as the installations Hell Hell Hell/ Heaven Heaven Heaven: Encountering Sister Gertrude Morgan (Arthur Roger Gallery, 2010) and Faith and the Devil (George Adams Gallery, 2012). Dill is represented by the George Adams Gallery in NYC, and the Arthur Roger Gallery in New Orleans. Dill lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
