Kiki Smith (b. 1954, Nuremberg, Germany) is a leading figure among artists addressing philosophical, social, and spiritual aspects of human nature. For more than three decades, she has created works of exceptional power and beauty, spanning mediums from sculpture and printmaking to installation and textiles. Since 1979, Smith has been the subject of more than 150 solo exhibitions internationally at institutions including the Whitney Museum of Art, New York; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Museum Haus Esters, Kunstmuseen Krefeld, Germany; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; Louisiana Museum for Moderne Kunst, Humlebæk, Denmark; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; and Whitechapel Art Gallery, London. Smith has been included multiple times in the Whitney Biennial (1991, 1993, 2002) and La Biennale di Venezia (1993, 1999, 2005, 2009). Her work is held in more than fifty important public collections worldwide. Kiki Smith lives and works in New York City. She has been represented by the Pace Gallery since 1994.
