These are the only major (and seminal) collage and stencil books available from the dozens of artists’ books and sketchbooks that formed Scott Williams’ decades-long investigation into the iconography of the American West and the numerous colonial and indigenous cultures that formed that cultural edifice. The piece is an encyclopedic deep dive into the complexities of a very particular moment in our human history. The piece was created from Scott’s primary Western collage book which he worked on for almost 30 years, it’s an intense palimpsest of visual wonderment and intellectual and emotional challenge. Long time friend and representative of Scott’s, Marshall Weber designed the 4 volume set. The binding and box were fabricated by William’s binder Sophia Kramer.
Vol I has 27 pages; Vol II has 14 pages; Vol III has 23 pages; Vol IV has 26 pages
