Real estate people have enormous influence over our communities & lives. But what do they do? And how do they do it? People who own property have a huge effect on communities. The prices they set for rental apartments and home sales determine who can live where; and when they raise rents, many residents have to move, making way for renters with high levels of income. The same is true when owners covert apartments to condos; a different person moves in, one who often has more money and comes from a different background. These individual changes slowly alter the make-up of a community.
