The Great Commonwealth is an artist’s scroll by Marshall Weber composed of rubbings from the Confucius Statue at Confucius Plaza in Chinatown, New York City, and the Labor History Timeline in Union Square in New York City.

Media: wax crayon and graphite on gampi pages backed with acid-free cotton paper with a silk fabric backing sewn on the back. Methol Cellulose in vast amounts was used to adhere the gampi to the cotton paper in order to produce the vellum-like quality of the faux-ancient document.

Matted and bound by Cat Glennon.
Scroll. 8″ x 16.’  Unique. 2012.
