These conceptual found object assemblage codices were made in the summer of 2023 with crushed cans collected off streets thaty are in the Chicago zip code areas 60618 and 60647. The specific streets were North California Ave., West Diversey Ave., North Elson Ave., and North Rockwell St.. The cans are mounted on tar paper with industrial adhesive tape by (again) crushing them with a forklift. These books are from a variant series of 14 Smash Can Books, that are part of a life-long and large body of found and process books done by Shellabarger (sometimes in collaboration with his husband Dutes Miller).

Smash Can Book (Rainbow), labeled version A in the photographs, contains crushed cans from various different brands and beverages in all colors, this book is out of print and is held by the Special Collections Library of Trinity College in Hartford, CT, and Smash Can Book (Modelo) labeled version B in the photographs, contains different kinds of Modelo beers and is held by the Special Collections Library of the Uninversity of Southern California. Smash Can Book (Pellegrino), labeled version C in the photographs, is currently available.
