“I sometimes get attracted to black thread. When I used it on white organza for the first time, it reminded me of my childhood memories of Japanese Calligraphy class. The smell of sumi-ink, all the ceremonious ways of conducting writing characters, the quietness in the classroom with faint sounds from outside…. Sumi ink is made of soot. Many people associate color black with death but knowing people can write or draw something beautiful with soot, which is produced from burning something, I feel like color black has a feeling of second life.
The shape of thread matrix in black resembles a neuron – but some parts are hidden under the pages just like some memories are buried under many layers.” — artist Rima Day on Scriptum XVII
