This laser printed collage zine is a folded one pager, featuring a map of the area including Riker Island Penitentiary. The zine walks through the nefarious colonial and post-colonial history of the island, from the 1664 purchase of the original 87.5 acre island by the Ryken family, to New York City’s purchase of the island, which transformed the land to military training ground, a landfill and lastly, the infamous and tragic Rikers Island Penitentiary.
