Inspired by the courage of lesbians who lived, struggled, and loved in more difficult times, the Archives is governed by a group of volunteer coordinators and sustained by the collective work of volunteers and the passions of women the world over. SYLVIA RAY RIVERA, John Gerken, 2001, 11in x 17in, offset print. Silvia Ray Rivera, a Puerto Rican and Venezuelan transwoman from New York City, was a civil rights activist involved with the Young Lords and Black Panthers, took part in the Stonewall Riot in 1969 and was a founding member of the Gay Liberation Front.
