Park Factors investigates space, using the site-specificity of baseball park factors as a metaphor for personal loss and negotiating the space it inhabits. Shana Agid couples text with images of carefully arranged tupperware lids in drawers by their mother.

One side of this accordion book couples handset type with pressure prints; the other side reveals a full spread of the pressure prints. Both sides can be read using the removable paper spine.

Park Factors includes pressure prints and text printed from handset type, both on the Vandercook Universal 1 press at the New York City Center for Book Arts. The interior paper is Stonehenge and Zerkall Book Smooth, the cover is Red Walnut and Faux Persimmon from Cave Paper. The typeface is Condensed Sans Serif #5.

The text is written by the artist, with the exception of the sentence, “There is no absolute park factor.” These are the words of Oscar Palacios, whose excellent book, Diamond Diagrams, taught me about this strangely relational statistic.

This book was made during a Book Arts Scholars Residency at the Center for Book Arts, 2015-16. Many thanks to Sara Parkel, Nancy Loeber, CBA staff and fellow residents, Robert Lopez, LB Thompson, and Kerry MacNeil. This is for Bob, who built the kitchen with so many drawers.” — Shana Agid.
