19 gorgeous reduction linocut prints in an archival box with a colophon.
Cooperation Cats: Using Cats to Represent Social Change Issues is a series of 21 prints that represent cats engaging in cooperative tasks. Created between 2008-2019, this is one of two sets of a near-complete set of these prints that exist. This portfolio includes 19 prints from the series. The prints range in size: the smallest is 13” x 20”, and the largest is 24” x 36”. Each image was created in a small edition of fewer than 50 prints, with 3-8 colors in each print. A few images also have layers of spray paint to achieve additional colors and textures. Each image is a reduction linoleum block print. This means one block was carved and then printed, then more of the image is carved, and the block is printed again. The block continues to be carved and printed multiple times to achieve the final print. Once the last color is printed, the print cannot be reprinted. Cats are depicted collaborating with one another in tasks including screenprinting, breaking bread, sawing wood, mending a quilt, shoveling snow, harvesting mushrooms, giving birth with midwives, grooming each other, and gathering in protest.
