Haste with the Hasting Current is artist and poet Peter Spagnuolo’s lyric and romantic photo essay of New York City in the months before the 9/11 attack. The book is presented from the perspective of a poet/paddler in a canoe on the East River and on Newton Creek overlaid with excerpts from Walt Whitman’s poem, “Crossing Brooklyn Ferry,” first published in 1856, and from which Spagnuolo draws his title. This book represents a somewhat portentous meditation of the WTC Towers, considering both their prominent place in the book and their precipitated fall.

Hand-printed photographs overlayed with text. 34 pages. 8″ x 5.” Edition of 12. 2001.
