This poster set includes twelve Risograph-printed posters created at the Gender-Expansive Families Propaganda Party on March 23, 2025. This is an annual community event that produces materials to build support for transgender and gender-expansive rights. Hundreds of people gather at Interference Archive in Brooklyn, NY, to print t-shirts and posters, to create buttons, zines, and other materials in preparation for Trans Day of Visibility events, which are typically one week after the event.
Organized by P.O.G.E.K. (Parents of Gender-Expansive Kids) at PS39 (Brooklyn, NY) in collaboration with Interference Archive and supported by PS39’s Parent Association, this community event is free and open to the public. All materials created are available at no cost to participants, although donations are welcomed. Graphics are contributed by artists (of all ages) of trans experience and parents of gender-expansive kids.
Participating organizations like Trans formative Schools, Brooklyn Community Pride Center, Textile Art Center, & Booklyn, Inc. bring activities like block printing, mural-making, zine-making, and embroidery. Representatives from many organizations bring flyers or postcards to share their work and help others connect with their cause. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with others, learn about important work happening in our community, and gather materials to show support and solidarity.
With the enthusiastic permission of the participating artists, P.O.G.E.K. created this poster portfolio as a fundraiser for upcoming work.
What is a propaganda party? It’s a gathering where organizations, activists, artists, and community members come together to create and share t-shirts, posters, buttons and other materials while connecting with one another in a supportive environment.
Why “propaganda”? “Propaganda,” shares roots with “propagate,” and refers to information, ideas, or images shared in support of a cause. While this word has taken on negative connotations in modern times, we’re reclaiming it! Our daily lives are saturated with supposedly “neutral” materials that implicitly support existing power structures. We use the word “propaganda” because this work is not neutral—we’re proudly supporting our gender-expansive community.
