While this body of work began as sketches for larger paintings, they soon revealed themselves to be something altogether their own. They appear first as abstractions, but unfold over time into decimated landscapes inhabited by figures. Use of pattern causes foreground and background to oscillate, colors set stages and tell stories. Snippets of text point the reader in a direction, or maybe they don’t.
