“My first introduction to art was by way of NYC subway graffiti. In my adolescence, I learned basic stenciling and screen printing techniques in my high school shop class. These methods later lead to the same practices I use today to create public murals, street art, and gallery exhibitions. The printmaking aspect of my work lends itself to clearly rendering narratives on the lives and emotions of the common people which has been my focus since a very young age.”
–Chris Stain, August 2014

Chris Stain (American, b. 1972) grew up writing graffiti in Baltimore, MD in the mid-1980s. Compared at times to the American Social Realist movement of the 1930s and ’40s, Chris’s work echoes his upbringing and the people who helped shape his mental and physical landscape. This box set includes drawings, prints, books, and ephemera that track his progression as an artist over 30 years.
