For the Love of Bees, Caroline Paquita 4.25″ X 3″ 16 pages (single sheet mini in an accordian fold)
Risograph printed in Florescent pink and flat gold
Machine sewn binding. Pegacorn Press, September 2018
“For The Love of Bees,” is a handmade mini artist book made by Caroline Paquita. It is a celebration of honeybees and an homage to colonies lost over the years due to ongoing environmental changes. Honeybees are one of the most researched creatures on the planet and for good reason. They have held our imagination, inspired us, pollinate much of the food we eat, and make honey—it’s easy to have a deep appreciation for them and throughout the ages, many societies have rightly held them in the highest regard.
This petite book is Risograph printed in flat gold and roughly measures 4.25″ X 3″. The embossed cover has been painted with beeswax and then heat set, for the wax to fully soak in. You can smell and feel the presence of the beeswax, which also adds to the sensory experience.
The sixteen inner pages, which are mainly spreads, are created from a single sheet of paper which has been folded and cut to create an accordion like fold out. There is a continuous honeycomb pattern printed in florescent pink on the backside of the inner imagery, which can be seen when the book is folded out. The book is glued and machine stitched together, so each one is truly handmade and takes quite a bit of time and care. It comes in a handmade Risograph printed envelope for safe keeping. “For the Love of Bess,” is a unique book for your collection, or to gift to your favorite beekeeper.
