Brian D. Tripp is an interdisciplinary artist whose work spans from work in traditional Karuk dance, singing, and ritual artworks to provocative contemporary sculpture, artist’s books, painting, and drawing. Tripp’s art provides a new perspective on imagery familiar to the artist and Native American tradition: motifs from basket work, arrowheads, ceremonial objects, and Karuk regalia passed down for generations are reinvigorated and formal geometric iconography. His contemporary renditions pay homage to the inherent power of images long in use but still vital. An important spiritual leader and artist to the Karuk people Brian is a respected elder, leader, and artist in the Karuk community and throughout California.
