Beyond the Wall of Sleep combines an H.P. Lovecraft short story, the piece’s namesake, with figurative imagery by Buchta done in intaglio with two to four copper plates per page. Buchta does all his own etching and printing; the text is hand brushed. The paper is custom-made by master European paper artist Gangolf Ulbricht of Berlin and bound by Stephen Ortbauer of Vienna.
“Beyond the Wall of Sleep” text by Howard Philips Lovecraft (1890-1937).
Etching, aquatint, open bite, & laquer (4 steps); brushed text; age-resistant cotton rag by Gangolf Ulbricht in Berlin; decorated endpapers; custom decorated slipcase. 12.75″ x 15.5.” 48 pages. Edition of 30 plus 2 APs. 2007.
