Starting with the first known origins of slash fanfiction from Star Trek: The Original Series, Gerlach compares these themes to the current reboot of TOS, Star Wars, and Voltron: Legendary Defender. Beyond the appeal of the casting and character dynamics, this issue argues that the themes, environments, and scenarios of sci-fi media help to foster the creation of such fanfiction.
