This winter we are excited to offer THREE foundation workshops: Zines 101, Binding 101, and Posters 101.

Hosted once again by our friends at Interference Archive, these workshops are designed to get our creative community juices flowing during a cold winter months. Class sizes are limited so sign up today to ensure your spot!

Zines 101: Personal Narrativces
Feb. 4, 6-8pm
Instructor: Francisco Donoso

Learn the basics of zine-making, including several paper folding and binding styles. Leave with your very own zine and lots of handouts and resources to help you on your zine-making journey.

Binding 101: Stab & Pamphlet
Feb. 18, 6-8:30pm
Instructor: Jan Descartes

Learn two handy and simplistically beautiful binding techniques: the Pamphlet Stitch & Japanese Stab-binding. Leave with two bound blank books, and handouts for your future bookbinding.

Posters 101: Resistance is a Language
March 11, 6-8:30pm
Instructor: Josh MacPhee

Learn more about “resistance as a language” and use it to create political posters.

We’re gonna be at Tropic Bound!

Miami’s first international, biennial Artists’ Book Fair returns to the Miami Design District February 6-9, 2025! Book artists, publishers, curators, librarians, book lovers and the aesthetically curious will come together for an international event highlighting the art of books, and books that are art, with an educational symposium, breakaway sessions, and a bustling fair filled with exhibitors from around the globe.

We’ll be there and we’re bringing a great collection with us. Come see new work from Booklyn artists, like Halah Khan‘s The Book of Five Cursed Moons, Nicolas Lampert‘s Co2 Flags, and Mike Taylor‘s From the River to DC.

Zine Maker Space at Zora Neale Hurston Summit!

Exciting news! Booklyn is operating a Zine Maker Space at the first-ever Zora Neale Hurston Summit at Barnard College on January 31 – February 1, 2025.

Special thanks goes to Booklyn Artist, Sauda Mitchell, for inviting us into the ZNHS community. She will be showcasing a new artists’ book at the summit! And thanks to Rae Chesny, Director of Programs for the Zora Neale Hurston Trust, Booklyn, Inc. is an official Community Sponsor of the event. Thank you, also, to Jenna Friedman, Director of the Barnard Zine Library, who is hosting our Zine Maker Space

Come make zines at the library! Teen participants can learn to create zines in two formats: an 8-page zine using just one sheet of paper, and a pocket-sized, staple-bound zine. We’ll use fun collage imagery, stickers, stamps, and our own imaginations! No experience necessary. All materials will be provided.

The theme for this Zine Camp is Native Plants. We’ll explore our love of plant life and zines, and learn to identify a few plants and trees native to Brooklyn. Get ready for some WOW printmaking & bookbinding techniques using natural materials!

Diwali School Break: Zines & Gaming
November 1, 2024
Calling all game enthusiasts for this special camp! We will explore the love of board games, card games, and role-playing games in this special Zine Camp. Get ready to imagine worlds and create game spaces using the DIY tools of bookmaking.

Veteran’s Day School Break: Music Fanzines
November 11, 2024
Are you a Swiftie? Punk rocker? Hip-hop head? Let’s make fanzines that center our love of bands, musicians, music cultures, genres, and music in general. “Fanzines” are some of the earliest forms of zines and are made to share enthusiasm for certain aspects of our culture.

Ages: 6-11 (grades 2-5)

Come make zines to celebrate this season of abundance with this fun and crafty zine workshop! Whatever holidays you may celebrate, fall can be a wonderful time to connect to nature and celebrate the annual harvest. Participants can learn to create zines in two formats: an 8-page zine using just one sheet of paper, and a pocket-sized, staple-bound zine. We’ll explore “abundance” in its many forms using fun collage imagery, stickers, stamps, and our own imaginations! No experience is necessary. All materials will be provided.
