Ryoko Adachi is a book artist based in Japan. Her work is often inspired by the forms and materials found in nature, through which she expresses her interest in science. The wide range of techniques and materials she uses is determined by the structural concept of each book. Adachi studied design and media theory at university in Japan. While working as a graphic designer, she presented installations that explored natural phenomena. Inspired by German book artists, she later started making book art and spent one year in Germany to study bookmaking with the help of a public grant. Currently based in Tokyo, Adachi practices and exhibits nationally and internationally. She has participated in international book fairs and group exhibitions as well as an artist residency in Finland.
