María Verónica San Martín is a Chilean-born, New York-based artist working in printmaking, artist books, installations, sculpture, and performance art. She was a studio artist at The Whitney Museum ISP (2017-2018), a scholar at The NY Center for Book Arts (FONDART Grant, 2017), and an Art OMI Resident(2016). She has had exhibitions at the National Archive of Chile; Artist Space Whitney ISP, NYC; The Museum of Memory and Human Rights, Chile; BRIC Arts Media, NY; The Cantor Art Center, Stanford University, CA; and The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Germany. Her work is in the collections of The Pompidou Center, Paris, France; The Klingspor Museum, Offenbach am Main, Germany; and the New York Public Library, New York, United States among others. San Martín addresses memory as a pivotal factor for the understanding of the neoliberal, globalized present, through the subject matter of the Chilean dictatorship’s violence (1973-1990), vis-à-vis the United States and Nazism’s involvement in that violence. She is currently working on her ongoing project called Dignidad, an art installation and performance based on secret telephone documents about Colonia Dignidad in collaboration with the Association for Memory and Human Rights of the ex-enclave, the lawyer Winfried Hempel and the National Archive of Chile. Dignidad will travel in 2019 to CBA in NY, ATA in SF, and to the Museum Meermanno in The Hague.
